If you are heading to Naejangsan National Park, keep two facts up front. National park admission fees were abolished on 1 January 2007. For the cable car, the standard round-trip fare is ₩11,000 for adults and ₩7,000 for children.

Naejangsa temple viewing fees are separate from park admission and from the cable car. If you want to know whether Naejangsa charges a viewing fee, ask the temple directly (063-538-8741).

When did national park admission end?

The Korea National Park Service history page lists the abolition of national park admission fees on 1 January 2007. After that date, park entry itself is not charged.

Money you may still pay on site is for parking, facility use, or the cable car. There is no park admission fare.

Naejangsan was designated Korea’s eighth national park in 1971. The KNPS Naejangsan guide lists an area of 80.708 km² and Sinseonbong as the main peak at 763 m. The main inquiry number is 063-538-7875.

How much is the Naejangsan cable car?

The operator site Naejangsan Cable Car posted a fare-change notice dated 1 September 2025. Its fare table lists round-trip, one-way, and discount prices side by side.

Children are ages 37 months through elementary school; adults are middle-school students and older. Tickets are sold on site in boarding order on the day of travel. Advance reservations are not available.

Discounts apply only to holders of a National Merit card or a Welfare Card (grades 1–2), and only on round-trip tickets for the cardholder. Senior discounts are not applied. If you buy a round-trip ticket and walk down, refunds are not available—buy a one-way ticket if you plan to hike down.

Round-trip and one-way fares

Type Adult Discount (adult / child) Child
Round trip ₩11,000 ₩7,000 / ₩5,000 ₩7,000
One way ₩7,000 — ₩5,000

Boarding notes

There is no elevator or lift; you climb stairs (about three stories) to the boarding level. Older visitors, pregnant passengers, and infants should board with a guardian. Guests with disabilities or limited mobility must board with a guardian.

Pets are not allowed except for guide dogs. Bicycles, skateboards, and crampons may not be brought on or worn while boarding. Smoking is banned throughout the national park.

When does the cable car run?

Summer hours are 09:00–18:00 on both weekdays and weekends. That summer schedule excludes the autumn foliage peak period.

The operator says hours may change during the autumn foliage season. Winter hours are weekdays 10:00–17:00 and weekends 09:00–17:00.

Ticket sales close one hour before operations end. The basic interval is 20 minutes and may run continuously when queues are long. Strong winds, lightning, or mechanical maintenance can stop service early.

An upper-station ticket office sells one-way tickets for the ride down. Trails continue from the upper station toward the observatory, Yeonjabong, and Sinseonbong. A walking descent is signed as upper station → observatory → Naejangsa → lower station.

What are the parking flat rates?

Flat parking rates in the National Park Fee Collection Rules schedule are: small vehicles ₩4,000 on weekdays and ₩5,000 on weekends and peak days; midsize and large vehicles ₩6,000 on weekdays and ₩7,500 on weekends and peak days.

Small covers all passenger cars, vans up to 15 seats, and trucks up to 1 ton. Midsize and large covers vans with 16 or more seats and trucks over 1 ton. The rate is per day, per parking zone. Regular buses are free except for monthly parking.

Peak periods in the rules are 1 July–31 August and 1 October–15 November each year. Those dates define facility peak season, not a foliage forecast.

During autumn foliage season, private cars are restricted inside the park. The operator directs visitors to walk (about 30 minutes) or use the park shuttle.
