Hallasan National Park does not charge a hiking admission fee. The official VisitHalla fee table leaves the adult, youth, soldier, and child cells blank for summit and general courses—those blank cells mean admission is not collected. You still need a free reservation for two summit segments: Seongpanak (Azalea Field ↔ Baengnokdam) and Gwaneumsa (Samgakbong ↔ Baengnokdam). From 1 December 2025, morning quotas are 05:00–08:00 Seongpanak 800 / Gwaneumsa 400, then 08:01–11:30 Seongpanak 200 / Gwaneumsa 100. Timed parking started 1 January 2026 (small cars max ₩13,000/day; medium/large max ₩20,000), and the age-65+ parking exemption was abolished. Confirm fees and live trail status on the VisitHalla usage-fees page.

Is Hallasan hiking free?
Yes—trail admission is not charged. VisitHalla’s fee table shows empty cells for summit courses (Seongpanak, Gwaneumsa) and for general courses across adults, youth/soldiers, and children. There is also no booking fee for a reservation itself. You still pay separately for parking, the Gwaneumsa campground, and coin showers—those are facility charges, not trail admission.
The same VisitHalla fees table (id=50) lists parking and camp rates. Do not expect a printed “₩0” line for hiking—the cells are simply blank.
Which trails need a reservation—and what are the quotas?
Only the upper segments toward Baengnokdam on Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa require a reservation. On Seongpanak that is Azalea Field ↔ Baengnokdam; on Gwaneumsa it is Samgakbong ↔ Baengnokdam. Five other trails—Eorimok, Yeongsil, Donnaeko, Seokgulam, and Eoseungsaengak—are walk-up. Seasonal entry and exit control hours still apply on every trail, reserved or not. Many walk-up routes do not reach the crater lake; summit access usually means booking Seongpanak or Gwaneumsa.

Reservation vs walk-up
| Type | Trails / segments |
|---|---|
| Reservation required | Seongpanak (Azalea Field ↔ Baengnokdam), Gwaneumsa (Samgakbong ↔ Baengnokdam) |
| Walk-up (no reservation) | Eorimok, Yeongsil, Donnaeko, Seokgulam, Eoseungsaengak |
Segment rules follow the reservation-section notice (seq=1284) dated 23 April 2025 (English board: notice_en seq=1285). VisitHalla’s English UI sometimes spells the crater Baeknokdam, the hermitage Seokguram, and the peak Eoseungsaeng; this guide prefers Baengnokdam / Seokgulam / Eoseungsaengak, with Azalea Field for Jindallaebat.
Quotas from 1 December 2025
| Entry window | Seongpanak | Gwaneumsa |
|---|---|---|
| 05:00–08:00 | 800 | 400 |
| 08:01–11:30 | 200 | 100 |
Earlier rules used three time windows. A 24 October 2025 notice merged them into two windows effective 1 December 2025. Numbers are published in the reservation time-slot notice (seq=1291).

Gwaneumsa timing caveat: After rockfall-prevention work on Samgakbong↔Baengnokdam, VisitHalla posted a reopen for 24 September 2026 from 05:00, with booking restarting 21 September 2026 from 09:00 (notice seq=1300, 18 September 2026). The main screen can still show a Gwaneumsa “reservation restricted” message on some days or language views. Treat the notice as policy and **check the live VisitHalla main page on the day you hike**—do not assume open or closed from an older screenshot.
When does booking open, and how do cancel and QR rules work?
Reservations open at 09:00 on the first business day of the previous month. A January hike, for example, opens on the first business day of December. One account can book up to four people, and you may hold only one hike per week by hike date. After you use your QR normally, you can book again from the next day. Book the ascent trail even if you plan to descend another way—up Seongpanak and down Gwaneumsa means a Seongpanak reservation. After a booking is complete you cannot add companions or edit details; cancel all or part of the party only.

Cancel deadline and no-show penalties
Cancel before your reserved entry window ends. Use the same login or authentication method you used to book. A no-show brings a three-month reservation ban the first time and a one-year ban the second. If weather closes the trail, cancel that day’s booking and re-book when slots reopen. The same rules appear in the VisitHalla FAQ on cancel and no-show, and in notice seq=1284.
QR and ID at the gate
At the checkpoint you need one QR code plus ID (passport or national ID) per person. QR codes arrive by KakaoTalk, SMS, or email at the contacts you entered—English notices mention mail from “visithalla.” Selling or swapping QRs is banned. If personal data on the booking does not match the ID you present, entry is denied and you face a one-year ban; illegal QR trade also cancels the booking and triggers a one-year ban (QR / ID notice seq=1295). Have a mobile ID screen ready before you reach the gate. Cross-check cancel and no-show rules on the VisitHalla FAQ.
Seongpanak has no shop on the trail—pack food, water, and gear before you start.
How much is timed parking in 2026?
From 1 January 2026, Hallasan parking switched from a flat daily fee to a time-based system. Small vehicles (all passenger cars, vans ≤15 seats, trucks ≤1 t) pay ₩1,000 for the first hour, then ₩500 every 20 minutes, capped at ₩13,000 per day once you pass nine hours. Medium/large vehicles (vans ≥16 seats, trucks >1 t) pay ₩2,000 for the first hour, then ₩800 every 20 minutes, capped at ₩20,000. The age-65+ parking exemption was abolished on the same date.
| Class | First hour | Each extra 20 min | Daily max (9h+) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small (passenger cars, vans ≤15 seats, trucks ≤1 t) | ₩1,000 | ₩500 | ₩13,000 |
| Medium/large (vans ≥16 seats, trucks >1 t) | ₩2,000 | ₩800 | ₩20,000 |
Campers get a one-night, one-vehicle parking discount: ₩7,000 small / ₩10,000 medium-large. The Gwaneumsa campground itself is ₩9,000 per night for a large site (≥31 m²) and ₩7,000 for medium (11–30 m²). Coin showers cost ₩1,000 for the first 6 minutes and ₩500 for each extra 3 minutes. These figures match the VisitHalla fees table; the 2026 switch and the end of the 65+ parking exemption were also reported in Korean press coverage of the reform.
Worked example: Park a small car for five hours → ₩1,000 for the first hour + 12 × ₩500 for the remaining four hours (12 twenty-minute blocks) = ₩7,000. Stay past nine hours and you hit the ₩13,000 daily ceiling. That is a steep jump from the old flat passenger rate of about ₩1,800—long stays are deliberately expensive to push shorter parking and transit.
What if the Seongpanak lot is full?
The Seongpanak trailhead lot holds at most 156 vehicles and fills early, often before a dawn start. Shoulder parking is illegal and enforced for about 4.5 km on the Jeju side and 2.3 km on the Seogwipo side. When the trailhead is full, use the free transfer lot at Yeongpyeong-dong San 8-26, Jeju-si (near Jeju International University)—199 spaces—then ride bus 281, 181, or 182 to the trailhead.
| Bus | Role | First / last | Interval | Rough time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 281 | Local · Jeju BT ↔ Route 5.16 ↔ Seogwipo BT | 06:00 / 22:00 | 10–14 min (Jeju→Seogwipo) | ~45 min from Jeju BT |
| 181 | Express · Jeju Airport ↔ Route 5.16 | 06:10 / 22:29 | 30–45 min | ~35 min from the airport |
| 182 | Express · Seogwipo-limited direction | 06:00 / 22:41 | — | — |
Look up live routes on bus.jeju.go.kr. Parking and transfer details are in the Seongpanak parking notice (seq=1294) dated 5 June 2026.
FAQ
Q. Is there an admission fee for Hallasan? A. Hiking admission is not charged. VisitHalla’s fee table leaves summit and general-course cells blank. Parking, camping, and showers are separate paid items.
Q. Do Yeongsil and Eorimok need a reservation? A. No. Eorimok, Yeongsil, Donnaeko, Seokgulam, and Eoseungsaengak are walk-up. Only Seongpanak (Azalea Field ↔ Baengnokdam) and Gwaneumsa (Samgakbong ↔ Baengnokdam) require a booking.
Q. What happens if I miss my reserved slot? A. Cancel before your entry window ends. A no-show means a three-month ban the first time and a one-year ban the second. Illegal QR trade or an ID mismatch also brings a one-year ban.
Q. Do visitors aged 65+ still park free? A. No. From 1 January 2026 the age-65+ parking exemption was abolished. Small cars pay up to ₩13,000 a day and medium/large vehicles up to ₩20,000 under the timed rates.
